Diabetes isn’t automatically a barrier to dental implants. With good medical control and careful planning, many people with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes can receive implant treatment safely and predictably. At Stockport Implant Centre, we assess every patient individually to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Type 2 Diabetes
Not a contraindication for implant treatment.
If blood sugar is well controlled (through diet and/or oral medication), treatment can proceed under normal implant protocols.
Ongoing communication with the patient’s GP or diabetic team is recommended.
Before treatment, we require a recent blood glucose or HbA1c result confirming that diabetes is well controlled.
Close collaboration with the patient’s medical practitioner ensures safe and predictable results.
Important Notes for All Diabetic Patients
Diabetic patients can have reduced immunity and a slightly higher risk of infection.
Research shows a small increase in implant failure rates, so it’s important to be open and transparent about this.
Regular follow-ups and communication between the dental and medical teams are vital.
